Chicago Director of Shelter Medicine Job Opening

Accurately diagnose and treat a wide variety of medical conditions in accordance with shelter practices and resources.
Directly supervise licensed veterinary staff while promoting a positive learning environment for staff to continue to progress in the medical department.
Ensure compliance with guidelines relating to the practice of veterinary medicine within the shelter.
Collaborate with staff to make appropriate recommendations in the formulation of shelter medicine objectives and practices in order to ensure optimal health of sheltered animals.
Identify ongoing concerns and trends in the animal welfare movement.

Director of Shelter Medicine (Chicago area) Job Requirements:

Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree is required for this role.
A current veterinary license in the state of Illinois is required.
A minimum of 5 years of Shelter Medicine experience is required for this role.
Must be available for a flexible schedule.
Must be able to work standing or sitting for 8 or more hours.

Acts as a liaison between owners and veterinarians, communicating the condition of a patient, the results of any tests, or answering any questions regarding treatment plans.
Assists in various procedures being performed, including microchipping, blood drawing, vaccinations, and animal restraining.
Prepares medical treatments and applies them as prescribed by the patient’s veterinary doctor.
Assists in the preparation of patients for surgery, including shaving, intubation, and the measurement/application of medication.
Offers strong customer service through use of effective and genuine communication skills.

Veterinary Technician (Chicago, Illinois) Job Requirements:

Strong candidates are expected to have technician certification (CVT) in the state of Illinois.
At least 2+ years of experience is preferred.
Candidates should possess a strong background in the administration and prescription of various medications used within a veterinary practice.
A strong level of admiration for all patients, and a drive to ensure they are taken care of to the best of one’s ability.
Individuals must be able to lift up to 40 lbs., and the ability to stand for a maximum of 10 hours.

The Veterinarian will perform animal examinations to assess health status.
In this role, the Veterinarian will use previous experience and knowledge to diagnose and treat animal health conditions and make reasonable medical decisions.
This job will perform various surgeries such as dental, orthopedic, spaying and neutering, amputations, mass removal, and optic surgeries.
The Veterinarian will manage anesthesia and any surgical complications and ensure proper post-operative care.

Veterinarian (Chicago Area) Job Requirements:

A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and an Illinois State Veterinary Board License is required for this job.

Previous experience in a mobile surgical setting is strongly preferred.
